Your Base Camp

Use the "Crabin' Cabin" on Cracroft Island as a base camp to go whale watching, bear watching, fishing for salmon or exploring the wilderness.

Cracroft Island is in the heart of bear country situated across the straits from Telegraph Cove up Knights Inlet on the mainland of British Columbia. From early May the bears finish their hibernation and venture out to feed. Soon the pink salmon and sockeye salmon will be returning up the rivers to spawn and the bears along with their cubs will have plenty to eat.

This is also a great time to view the killer whales that frequent these waters at this time of the year along with other smaller marine mammals like sea lions and seals. Whales are matriarchal and remain together in pods.

Bring your camera to capture the special moments like the sighting of killer whales, bears feeding in their natural habitat, the glimpse of a wolf, an eagle swooping to catch a salmon, or just the beauty of the wilderness.
